People have different goals and priorities in life. Some are satisfied leading simple lives where they work, pay their bills and take care of their families. Others need more, and Dr. Scott Rocklage is a prime example of this phenomenon. From the time that he was very young, Rocklage developed a habit of setting and achieving one goal after another. He was always adept at establishing goals and with determining the right steps for achieving them. After considering the many things that he has accomplished in his 61 years, you will quickly see how and why setting goals is so important in life.
Like anyone else, Scott Rocklage had to go to school as a kid. Unlike most people, though, Rocklage was a very serious student even when he was quite young. He understood even way back then that he needed to keep his nose to the grindstone if he wanted to get anywhere in life. He knew that he wanted to attend a prestigious university, and he had a fascination with science and chemistry. As a result, he set his sights on the University of California at Berkeley for his undergraduate studies and more information click here.
Scott Rocklage chose UC Berkeley precisely because of its stellar reputation in the worlds of science and chemistry. He knew that the program would be very challenging, but he had never been afraid of a challenge. After four years of hard work, he came away from UC Berkeley with a bachelor of science in chemistry. He excelled so much that he decided to keep up the momentum by applying to MIT’s highly competitive graduate chemistry program. He was accepted, and he was lucky enough to work under Richard R. Schrock. Schrock would go on to receive the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 2005. Scott Rocklage graduated from MIT with a PhD in chemistry in 1982 and learn more about Scott.
At first, Scott Rocklage thought that he wanted to focus on working in the science industry. Bench chemistry seemed like a natural fit for him, so he took a position as the leader of a small research team to get the ball rolling. The team focused on studying a phenomenon called homogeneous catalysis. Although he found the work to be engaging and interesting, Rocklage became disillusioned. What he was doing just wasn’t affecting the kind of change that he wanted. He wanted to truly make a difference–but how?
Even right out of graduate school, Scott Rocklage exhibited a knack for business. Even though he had focused his efforts on chemistry and science at first, he started realizing that his real passion lay in making things happen. The way that he saw it, being on the research end of things wasn’t the only way to make a difference. Money talks, and Rocklage knew that for innovative cures and products to hit the market, funding was needed. By moving into the chemical industry, Rocklage began laying the foundation for his future venture capital endeavors and his Linkedin.
Scott Rocklage has accomplished a great deal in the chemical industry as well as in the life science and medical industries. His first experience was in working as the CEO of a firm that specialized in MRI contrast agents. He then went on to assume important roles in many different organizations. He is the former executive chairman of Semprus, Miikana and Ilypsa. He has also served as chairman and CEO of diagnostic imaging company Nycomed Salutar and Cubist Pharmaceuticals. Today, he serves as the board chairman of Relypsa, Novira, Kinstral, K2 and Rennovia. He also currently serves on the boards of Pulmatrix, EPIRUS and Achaogen.
